For Patients
What to expect on the day of your appointment
EMG testing can feel intimidating. Patients are guided through each step of the process with careful explanation, individualized testing, and time to ask questions.
1
History & Exam
Dr. Yang reviews your symptoms, history, and referral, and performs a targeted clinical exam before any testing begins.
2
Nerve Conduction Study (NCS)
Small electrical pulses measure how quickly signals travel through the peripheral nerves — applied at the skin's surface. Most patients describe the sensation as a mild static shock.
Electromyography
(EMG)
A thin needle electrode records electrical activity in selected muscles — at rest and with gentle contraction, which allows direct assessment of the nerve and muscle health .
4
Ultrasound
When clinically indicated, musculoskeletal ultrasound adds real-time visualization of nerves, tendons, and soft tissue to complement the electrodiagnostic findings.
5
Results Discussion
Dr. Yang reviews findings with you and answers questions. You leave with a copy of the report, and the referring provider will receive it later that day.
